Rotator Cuff

Bursitis , Capsulitis (frozen shoulder) and Rotator Cuff dysfunction can occur independently ,  or as a result of other conditions present within the shoulder ,  likewise their presence   can cause other problems in the shoulder.  If you consider this complex  shoulder arrangement then factor in the neck , ribs and AC joint as possible causes of shoulder pain and the fact that quite often someone will have a combination of issues present , then the importance of accurate diagnosis and understanding  in treating these shoulder conditions  successfully can be appreciated.

Early intervention – Some conditions such a large acute Rotator Cuff tear may need urgent onward referral as successful surgical repair is dependent on rapid intervention   . As always early treatment can prevent the progression to a chronic condition and normally means less intervention is needed to manage the problem

Assessment – The complexity of the shoulder means that a thorough assessment and understanding is needed to successfully treat and rehabilitate a shoulder problem as quickly as possible.

Treatment – Our aim of treatment is to resolve potential underlying causes of your shoulder problem as well as symptomatic treatment to help the healing process and allow functional rehabilitation. We have good working relationships with local shoulder specialists  and can refer accordingly or will liase with your GP if required .

Most of our shoulder problems are treated with joint and soft tissue therapies aimed at resolving the underlying contributing factor or factors  Our team will take you right through the initial stages of treatment through to full rehabilitation getting you back to your day to day activities ,  work and sport.

Post operative shoulder treatment

Should surgical intervention be required then post operative treatment and rehabilitation will vary dependent on the type of procedure  carried out . Usually your surgeon will forward correspondence to us outlining a treatment plan and we will liase with your surgeon as rehabilitation continues informing them of your progress.  Here at Recovery and Beyond Physiotherapy we have a rehabilitation studio and also have use of a personal training gym allowing us to take you through whatever programme of care needed to restore  normal function .

Anyone can self refer to us post operatively , you will just need to let your surgeon and insurance company if using that you are coming to us for post operative treatment and then book  an appointment with us and we will take care of the rest .

Common  Causes of Shoulder pain

Some conditions such as bursitis or primary frozen shoulder can occur spontaneously

Trauma – a fall on the shoulder or outstretched arm and are classic injuries which can cause damage to many structures in the shoulder

Rotator Cuff– This normally means repeatedly using the shoulder in a poor position leading to pain and damage.  The poor position can be due to posture , excessively tight , weak or imbalanced muscles so can be also as a result of previous trauma.

Degenerative changes – Wear and tear of the rotator cuff is common as well as osteoarthritis of the gleno – humeral or acromio – clavicular joint.  These can be painful themselves , can lead to overuse conditions a s above and contribute to other conditions
